How to Host the Cutest Kids' Valentine's Party Ever

Valentine's Day is on its way! If you want to share the love with your kids and their friends, I've put together some lovely ideas for hosting the cutest kids' Valentine's party ever.

These ideas also work well if you are planning a middle school classroom party, there are some lovely game and activity suggestions.

Take inspiration from some of the ideas I've put together and you can throw a fabulous Valentine's Day party that your kids and their friends will adore.

Love A Good Theme!

Pick a theme that sparks joy at the perfect level for the kids.

Candy Land always goes down well. Think giant lollipops and gummy bears.

Or how about going with Puppy Love as a play-on-words theme? I'm seeing cute plushie puppies clutching hearts!

You could even make the party fancy dress and get the kids to come dressed as a character they love, which is likely to lead to some funny moments.

Decorations that Delight

A few cleverly chosen decorations can instantly transform your party space into a Valentine's Day delight.

Paper heart garlands are a really simple but effective way to decorate. You can buy them (Etsy has some lovely heart garlands) or actually, it's super easy to make them yourself.

Here's a video that shows you how:

Clustering helium filled balloons in shades of red and pink also works well. Or you could really go for it with a balloon arch, which can then be used as a backdrop for the inevitable selfie photo moments.

Fairy lights always work a treat to bring a little sparkle to party decor. I've also recently discovered that scattering lots of LED candles creates a totally pretty magical party space - with an emphasis on pretty!

Heart shaped confetti, plates and cups or paper tablewear festooned with hearts is a quick way to spread the love across the party food table.

And how about folding paper napkins into heart shapes? Here's a simple video tutorial that shows you how:

Fun Playlist Ideas

Create a playlist to set the mood. Go for upbeat, love-themed songs that kids will enjoy. Include a mix of current pop hits and classic tunes.

For younger children, add some nursery rhymes about love and friendship. "Skidamarink" and "You Are My Sunshine" are always popular.

Older kids might prefer current chart-toppers like Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande...

My favourite hack is to get Spotify (or A.N.Other music streaming app) to do the work for me. Here's a Love Song Playlist from Spotify.

Cute and Fun Activities

Now we've set the scene, let's move on to some ways to really bring the party to life... with cute games and activities.

Cupid's Creation Station

Set up a craft station where kids can unleash their creativity.

My advice, to keep things relatively straightforward and with as little mess as possible, is to choose one crafting activity for all the kids to make.

Here are some ideas for really fun Valentine themed crafts that work well for kids:

Mini Origami Hearts Tutorial

This is a great step-by-step video for making mini origami hearts.

Pipecleaner Puppy Dogs Tutorial

Possibly one of my favourite crafts for kids... just how cute are these little puppies?!

Games They'll Love

Keep the party lively with some Valentine's-themed games. These will get everyone moving and laughing.

Heart & Seek

Hide lots of paper hearts around the room/your home and have kids search for them.

The one who finds the most wins a prize. Grab this free printable Heart & Seek set.

Musical Hearts

Musical Hearts is a riff on the classic kids party game of musical chairs, but with heart shapes on the floor or on chairs.

Simply cut out some big hearts out of card (US Letter Size is fine, the heart just needs to serve as a marker rather than fit a whole behind on it!) and scatter them on the ground or place them on chairs.

Heart Piñata

Fill a heart-shaped piñata with heart-shaped candy and Valentine's treats and let the fun commence!

Pop over to my roundup of Valentine's Games For Kids for a bunch more wonderful themed games to play.

I've also got some fab printable Valentine's games in the shop that work well for kids when you want them to have some more low-energy fun.

Valentine's Candy Dice Game

This is one of the games in our Valentine's Games Bundle. It's a simple but fun game where players roll dice, collect candy, and see who ends up with the biggest stash.

Heart Shaped Valentine Word Search

This cute Valentine’s-themed word search puzzle is in the shape of a heart. It’s a great way to enjoy a calm moment between rounds of laughter.

Valentine's Maze Puzzle

Kids need to navigate their way through the maze towards the heart.

Photo Booth Fun

What kids' party is a kids' party without a photo booth these days eh?!

Set up a photo area where kids can take silly pictures with their friends. Use a plain wall or hang a pretty backdrop.

Add props like oversized heart-shaped sunglasses, DIY speech bubbles, and fun hats.

Want to go old school? Have a Polaroid camera ready so the kids can take home their snaps right away.

Love Bites!!

These tasty treats will make your Valentine's Day bash extra special for the kids.

Sweet Treats

Valentine's Day and candy go hand in hand.

  • Whip up some heart-shaped biscuits and let the kids decorate them with pink and red icing.
  • Try making chocolate-dipped strawberries - they're easy and look fab.
  • Or dip pretzel sticks in chocolate and decorate them with Valentine's themed sprinkels.
  • A big bowl of Cupid Chow looks great and tastes great.
  • Don't forget the classic conversation hearts sweets. Put them in small bowls around the party area for easy snacking.
  • And my current favourite Valentine's sweet treat... Love Bug Oreos. Here's a video tutorial:

Savoury Snacks

Balance out the sweet stuff with some savoury options.

  • Make mini pizzas in heart shapes using ready-made bases.
  • Cheese and crackers are always a hit. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cheese slices. Arrange them on a platter with different types of crackers.
  • For a healthier option, create a veggie platter. Cut cucumbers and carrots into heart shapes.
  • Serve with a pink yoghurt dip made by mixing beetroot juice into plain yoghurt.

Fun Drinks

Make a pink lemonade by adding a splash of raspberry cordial to regular lemonade. Serve it with heart-shaped ice cubes.

For a fancy touch, rim the glasses with pink sugar. Dip the rim in water, then in a plate of pink sugar crystals. The kids will feel extra special sipping from these fancy glasses.

Create a hot chocolate station with different pink and red toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream, strawberry coulis, and sprinkles. Perfect for warming up on a chilly February day!

Lovely Party Favours

Give your young guests something special to take home. Here are some fun ideas:

  • Fill jars with layered red and pink sweets for a pretty treat.
  • Create scented play dough in Valentine's colours for a fun sensory gift.
  • Order heart-shaped cookies with each child's name in icing.
  • Give out mini photo frames decorated with Valentine's stickers for kids to display a party picture.
