What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collection of images, words and prompts that represent what you want more of in your life.
It’s a visual reminder of the direction you’re heading in, and a cue to come back to when life gets busy.
Some people make a physical board with magazines and photos. Others create a digital version on their phone or laptop. The format is totally up to you, but the magic is in the intention behind it.
If you’d like inspiration for different formats, you might enjoy browsing vision board examples online (Canva has a good starting point): canva.com.
Why vision boards can be so helpful
A thoughtful vision board isn’t just “nice to look at”. It can help you stay focused on what matters, especially when you’re juggling a lot.
Benefits of creating a vision board
- Clarity: It helps you figure out what you actually want right now (not what you think you “should” want).
- Focus: It keeps your priorities visible instead of floating around in your head.
- Motivation: It gives you a positive nudge on the days when your energy is low.
- Better decisions: When you’re clear on your direction, it’s easier to say yes to the right things.
- Enjoying the journey: It reminds you that progress counts, even when it’s small.
Why planning first makes your vision board more powerful
Here’s the thing: most vision boards don’t fall short because people “did it wrong”. They fall short because they’re made too quickly.
It’s easy to add images that look aspirational, trendy or Pinterest-perfect… but don’t really match your real life, your values or the season you’re in.
That’s exactly why I created this planner. It helps you choose what belongs on your vision board with intention, so your final board feels grounded and motivating (not random or pressuring).

What’s on he Vision Board Planner?
This one-page printable guides you through eight key areas of life, so you can build a balanced vision that reflects the whole picture:
- Physical
- Intellectual
- Emotional
- Spiritual
- Financial
- Occupational
- Environmental
- Social
When you map your ideas out like this, you can spot what you want to grow, what you want to protect and what you’re ready to let go of. It’s a brilliant filter for deciding what should really make it onto your board.
How to use the planner (and make a vision board that actually works)
- Print the planner and add today’s date at the top.
- Fill in each section with notes, feelings, ideas and simple intentions. No need for perfect wording.
- Look for patterns. What keeps coming up? What feels exciting? What feels calm and steady?
- Create your vision board using images and words that connect back to what you wrote, so everything has a purpose.
- Place it somewhere you’ll see it and use it as a gentle compass, not a strict set of rules.
The goal isn’t a board full of vague wishes. The goal is a vision board that helps you move forwards, enjoy the journey and make choices that line up with what you truly want.
